Just wondered, before i go traipsing off to Grasmere to have a look. Would the church there hold parish records still or would they be at Kendal?

Very few CofE churches keep historic parish records. If you need to know where records of a particular parish are held, GENUKI will usually have the information. In the case of Grasmere you are right - they are at Kendal, and Carlisle also have filmed copies (in case that happens to be nearer for you):
