Hi

I've been having another look in another look before I go out.

In 1954, there were seven publichouses called the Old House at Home mentioned!

Mrs Eliz. Brown at 26 & 28 Middlewood St5

Herbert Radford Flint at 61 Burton Rd W20-

Jas. Hopkinson at 50 & 5? Bottomley Side B 9

Sidney Ernest Ryall at 74 & 76 Braemar Rd F14

Chas Steer at 131 Ashton Old Rd 12

Sydney Thornton at 254 Whit Lane S6.

I also looked up the reference for Glen Helen St and the nearest main Street is Liverpool St S5.

Have fun!

PS

None in 1829.

I wonder if this could be an Irish name.  There were loads of my Irish relatives in that area and all loved a sing song.

There are a few references to the "Old Country", "Old Home", etc in family literature.  All things old, for Ireland.

The piano had a piece of music in the stool - "If you ever go to Ireland, Will you Kiss My Old Mother For Me?"

Just a thought!  Probably way off mark, but you never know!

My husband John is from Salford & lived not far from the 'Old House at Home Public House.

He tells me it was half way down Middlewood St which was the continuation of Liverpool Street
going towards Manchester.

Hope this helps

I'm new here but just found this thread.

I know for a fact my auntie used to be the landlady of a pub called 'The Old House At Home' in Salford, I'm not sure what street is was on but it was around 1952, I remember going with my mam and dad a few times and remember playing with the balls on the snooker table till the men wanted a game and I had to get out of the way.
I also remember the pub had a stage and my dad sang a few times, I'm 62 now so you can imagine I was only young but I remember a few things from that time.

Her name was Florie Green and her husband was Charlie Green, she was my dad's sister and they lived on Liverpool road/street later in years.
My dad came from Salford his name was Charlie Reece, same as my grandad, Florie and Charlie Green have passed away now but their family still live in Salford.
