Help Needed Re Houslems
« on: Tuesday 19 May 09 16:33 BST (UK) »
My GG Grandmother Mary Houslem married James Rowley at the Collegiate Church Wolverhampton in January 1841, her marriage certificate states her fathers name as Joseph Houslem deceased. I have found a Christening for a Mary Houslem in 1823 with a father Named Joseph and mother Mary at St Johns Burslem Staffordshire on Family Search. I have looked for a marriage for a Joseph Houslem to try and find Marys mothers maiden name but found nothing, could anybody help or advise me.
Regards Dave.

Hiya Dave

Welcome to Rootschat!

Where does she give as her place of birth on the 1851 census?

Hi Willow x
Thanks for your reply.
On the 1861 census they are living in Bilston and she states place of birth as Burslem, On 1881 census they are living in Upholland Lancashire and again states Burslem as place of birth, and on 1841 census they are living in Bilston and it states she was born in the county of Staffordshire.
I could not find them on 1851 census.

Cheers Dave.

Hiya Dave

Its a good chance you have the right baptism but there isnt anything coming up on the IGI

If you can get to an LSC centre you can request the microfishe of the Burslem parish records to look at which might give you the answer

Hi Willow 4873
Thanks for trying.
I have found on IGI a Christening for a Joseph Houslem on 13th Dec 1820 at St Johns Burslem, with parents Joseph and Mary Houslem. I think this must be my GG Grandmothers brother.
Could you tell me if St Johns is a Church or is it a district of Burslem.
Many Thanks Dave.

Hi DMP
Thanks for the information and yes I think that Ellen could well be one of the family I am researching, Houslem can be spelt quite a few ways, so it depended on how the priest or registrar decided to spell it.
I think that I have possibly gone as far as I can, and will never know my GG Grandmothers maiden name.
Regards Dave

Hi.
I have just found a death on Free Bdm for a Joseph Ouslmen in 1839 at Wolverhampton, I think that this could be the the father of my GG/Grandmother. I am going to send off for the death certificate, If this is the correct certificate will it help me in anyway regarding finding out the maiden name of his wife or whether she was still living at the time of his death.
Regards Dave.
