hi can anyone  help with a lookup for my ggg grandfather born in scotland? around 1800. lived in dublin about 1840. retired as a major , no idea of regiment . or where to even look . his name was Hugh d Richardson.

I have looked in a few Army Lists from the 1840s and there is no Hugh Richardsons listed. Nor is there anything obvious on the London Gazette online search. Can you give specific examples of the information you have of when he was serving, and where it came from?
