I don't think I can be much help with Daphne, but I certainly know all about Florence Annie Jury.  She was my grandmother!!

As it doesn't lead to Daphne, don't know how far you want me to go with that, but will be pleased to detail what I know about her, her history starting in Devon.

Will await you reply if you want to follow this up with me. :)

Further thought to yesterday's message.  Don't reply too much on, especially 21, on a marriage cert.  Could be that she said 21 to avoid parental consent to the marriage  (if she was under 21) OR she could have been trying to hide the fact that she was more than 21. Also the father's name might not be right.  Whilst more usually reliable, it is not always so.  Florence Annie's father on her marriage cert. is said to be John Jury which was rubbish as she was illegitimate and no father is given on her birth cert..  There was a close relative, John, who was her mother's brother but perhaps I shouldn't dwell too much on the possibility that he was actually the father!!

Strange that you say she disappeared after the fourth child and Gwilym re-married, but then say the story is that she went back to France.  Did they divorce ? or might he have simply married (illegally) after she deserted him?

Another interesting point, you say she "went back" to France - was she born there? and if so any info. on when she came to UK?

Sympathies on a very knotty problem to unravel.

 :)

Thank you Davik for your input.  I printed off on the census the address which she gave on her marriage cert in 1911 even though she was not on it I was curious to see where it was and who lived there.  I was surprised to find an array of people staying at this address, none of them related, it look like a boarding house of some kind in Barry, Sth Wales, which got me thinking that maybe she had come from overseas or from another part of England perhaps.  It is a tricky one, but Daphne, if that is her real name must have come from somewhere, so I will keep on looking until I get lucky. Regards pahardy

birth cert will help you with her address at the time and should give all previous surnames for her.
