Daphne JURY, JURIE OR JURIS
« on: Friday 15 May 09 16:10 BST (UK) »
Can you help Daphne Jurie 21 years on M. Cert 1911 m. Gwilym Meredydd Perkins 4 children Megan Eurian b.1912, John Benjamin b. 1913 d. 1913, Catherine Zena b. 1914, Gwilym Meredydd Hugo b. 1917.  First 3 children registrations Cardiff, last child Bedwelty.  Gwilym re-married Gertrude Maud Partridge 1927.  Daphne disappears, children left with grandparents in Barry, Glam.  The story goes she went back to France to live but I am  not so sure about this.  The Bedwelty birth intrigues me as she must have known someone there, maybe a family member found an entry for Florence Annie Murrian previously Jury but that is all.  On m. registration Jurie, on b. registrations mothers maiden names Jury and Juris, so I am confused what her name really was and what happened to her, can't find birth record or death record.  Her father name on Marriage Cert was George Jurie Occupation Gamekeeper any clues would be great!!

No because the census for Glamorgan has not been released yet, which is where she was living in 1911.  She married on 11/111911 Cardiff Registration and the address given on her M. Cert was 50 Gladstone Road, Barry, Glam thats if its correct.

there are several Jury bmds registered Bedwellty. They start in 1904 so it could be that the family arrived after the 1901 census. The first one is marriage for a George..

It might be case of waiting for the 1911 which should be available this summer to get her place of birth.

How will I know that they are related to Daphne, in Devon there are loads of them.  Any ideas about the name and how I can identify which is the right spelling for her name.  Its proving to be a bit tricky but maybe she will pop up somewhere.

if you can find the families when the 1911 comes online, you can trace them back through the census years to see if they are related.

I wouldn't get too fixed upon 'correct spelling' of a name, it doesn't really happen like that. A name is spelt how the person recording the name writes it down.

Hi Osprey,

I am hoping the 1911 census will help with tracing her, well I hope it will, so you say that sometimes the registrars just spell it how they think its spelled by hearing the name.

Now the 1911 census is out for Glamorgan I still cannot find Daphne Jurie she had not married Gwilym Perkins when the census was taken, they married in 11/11/1911.  On their marriage cert she was Daphne Jurie maybe she was born with a different surname and changed her name to Jurie, could that be possible.

Have you tried doing a 'Place Search' on the 1911 for this Address? It might give some clues...

Romilly.
