Hi to all searching Ca,pt Robert Reece.
I am new to this site but am the great grand daughter of Robert. My uncle and I have been researching our family tree for some time and have gone back a very long way. My uncle is the grandson of Robert  and really wants to talk to you. He believes that you are his cousin. He wants me to give you his phone number but I would like you to contact me first.

Hi Dixie,

I too have been researching this family for a couple of years.  I am a direct descendant of John Reece (1867-1842) and Elizabeth Allen (1871-1932).  They are my great grandparents.  My grandparents are Catherine Baxter Reece and Frederick Slack.  John Reece (1867-1842) is Robert Reece's brother.  I am interested in researching further back in time but I seem to get stuck at David Reece (1796-1871) and Elizabeth Scott (1800-1875).    Have your researches taken you any further back than that?  I am more than happy to share any information I have on the family.

Pauline

Morning Pauline.
I have the dates for Johns father: dates for John Reece (1837-1876).
John Reece had 3 sons and 2 daughters (Elizabeth 1876-1878, David 1865-1875, John 1867,(he was a sawmill worker and was married to Elizabet Allen in about 1890), Anne Baxter-Reece 1869-1873, Robert 1871-1941
John Reece had a son called David Baxter-Reece and he died on Monkweirmouth Bridge in 1940 of natural causes.
I have little information beyond this although my investigations suggest that there is a link to the USA.
I have contacted the Sunderland Antiquarian society ( they have a lot of information) and am hoping to get further with their help(www.sunderland-antiquarians.org)
I have a lot of information on the Scott family if you are going in that direction.
Susan

Hi Susan,

Thanks so much for replying so quickly.  I already have all the information you mentioned about John Reece (1837 to 1876) and his children.  I remember my Nana telling me about her brother Davey who collapsed on Wearmouth Bridge coming home from work.  I also found a newspaper article about him.  Apparently the Coroner said the cause of death was heart disease.  Also he served in Salonika in WWI and contracted Malaria.  Although he suffered from the recurring effects of the disease, he did not die from it.

I have been to the Antiquarian Society and they're great, although I only visited them once when I was home last summer.  I am interested in the USA link.  I now live in the US myself although I was born in Sunderland.  Perhaps I am that link.

I would be very interested in information about the Scott family.  I come across a lot of Sunderland Scotts in the research material, and also Scotts have married into my family several times.  It is difficult for me to sort out from the material which Scotts are my(our) Scotts.

Maybe I have information you would find useful.  Is there anything specifically that you are looking for that I can help you with?

Pauline

Evening Pauline,
It's great to be in touch with another member of the family. I will get back to you with other information once I have got it in better order. My uncle,*, has been working with me on our family tree ( his mother, my grandmother was a Reece). He is very keen to talk to you but unfortunately hasn't got a computer at home. However he is happy for me to send you his telephone number so that you can speak to him and I am sure he will post lots of information to you ( he has amassed a considerable amount). His number is *. He lives in Lincolnshire in the Uk.
Keep in touch
Sue

Hi there,
I have just come across this thread and am also a distant relation. I am the great-great granddaughter of William Scott Reece (1829-1871), son of David Reece (1799-1871) and Elizabeth Scott (c.1800-1875), and brother of John Reece (the father of John Reece (1867)).
Would be interested to know if you have discovered anything futher about the family of David Reece (1799) or Elizabeth Scott. I have information about other children of David and Elizabeth and their descendants.
