Hi Pam
Welcome to Rootschat. Not sure why I'm not getting notifications of the threads I'm interested in. Anyway, the Da Costa I am interested in finding is the mother of my g.grandfather George William Wright. He was born in Bethnal Green sometime between 1855/65, but probably 1857/8. I cannot find a birth for him or find him on any census until he turns up as the father of my gran who was born in 1884 in Hull. My gran's mother was shown as being called Wright (she had previously been married and her married name and maiden name are also shown on the birth certificate. After that George is with the family on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census and on my g.gran's death cert, he calls himself "Widower".
I have no other info about him, apart from the fact that until after the 1901 census, he was a fisherman. On the 1901 and subsequent census and until his death in 1935 he ran a shop on Hessle Road.
I know that George Wright's mother was apparently called Da Costa, but that is the only infor my aunt can (or will) give me. This Da Costa lady was either Spanish or Portuguese. If any of this rings a bell, I'd be delighted to learn more.
