Do we have any evidence that William H is the son of John and Esther?

He was born 4 years before John and Esther married at Hulme St Philip and was living with gran Mary & John Talent in 1881.
(RG11; Piece: 3926; Folio: 101; Page: 15)

John's older sisters Martha and Mary were also there and W H could well be the illegitamate son of one of those two.

There's a likely looking John Aspray in the 1901 census living at 28 Angel St Manchester.

A couple of other families were listed at the same address. The Aspray's were living in a single room so must have been pretty impoverished.

Not found John/Jane marriage registration or Mary Jane birth.

Angel St is just off Rochdale Rd near Miller St.

Yes I think your right, William Henry could well have been an illigitimate son of one of John's sisters.
