Donoghue - Cork c1801
« on: Thursday 14 May 09 00:36 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone, I am stuck and think i have finally got as far as i can with my Mothers side but thought i would try asking for some help!

My oldest known relative is Jeremiah Donoghue b c1801 [possibly] in cork, he marries [assumed] Johanna [unknown maiden name] also [possibly] in cork and they have one son called John b c1821 in Cork. That is the only details i have for them as far as birth and dates which i have found via the 1841 Census in England.

I know cork is a large area plus the city and all the names are common... but if any one who has any ideas of how to trace these people based on this information i would gladly take any help/advice! I know they are in England in 1828 as their second child Margeret is born their. I also know that none of them could read or write.

I have no idea as to their religious beliefs as my grandfather and his brother were orphaned during the flu epidemic of 1918 and therefore they were brought up CofE.

Thank you and heres hoping that someone might shine a light for me>

Hello Mick,
In the following website there is a Jeremiah Donoghue born in Co Cork in 1806. To access the details of the record you will need to pay I think it is five euro.

All the best and hope it is the information you are looking for.

one detail to note - the IFHF website only contains records for about half of County Cork - and none of Cork city...

~Hi everyone, i have paid for many records and none of them are the right family. Can Anyone suggest other ways to seach the irish records for Cork as a whole rather than just parts of it?

If anyone has links to Donoghues from this county that goes back prior to 1800 and wishes to advise me please feel free as mine are all in London from the 1820s and i can not find them at all in ireland.

Thanks

There's no website that I know of that has all the county Cork parish records available. The new IrishGenealogy website is planning to add Cork parish records, but they mention no timescale for completion at the moment  - see : http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/welcome.html

Do you know what park of Co. Cork the Donoghue family came from  ?

Unfortunatly i do not... the only known details come from the 1841 English census and then onwards, Most of the time they simply state Ireland As place of birth but on one or two they put Cork!

I have tried all previous avenues but their is no John b1820 [allowing for the rounding down and also rounding up of the years] with Parents Jerimiah and Johanna. I can not even find a Wedding for the parents... of course they may of not been married.

Perhaps this branch will remain unfound until records become more standerdised and seachable  :o
