HELP NEEDED!!!

Hi all,

Would anyon be able to help with any information at all with my great uncle? I am looking in particular for a rough age/DOB for him and date that the photo could have been taken. Also if anyone knows what the three shevrons indicate? Any information t all would be most welcomed!!

Hi - well, here's a start for you. The three chevrons mean that he was a sergeant (in the RAF, but I assume you'd noticed that  :D). I'm no expert on the rest - you may get better results posting on the military board - but I'd say that he's no older than his mid-20s in the photo.

... and, as you can see, he was active during WW2, which may give you some guidance as to the age of the photo.

If you haven't already thought of it ... his military records may be available.  These would give you his birthdate and next of kin, amongst other things. Might be worth looking at TNA's website?

If the small badge above the stripes is a propellor then it could be the rank of chief technician.

The wings worn on the front mean he’s a pilot. If you have another photo that shows the complete badges on his arm that would help.
