Hi Susie and Mariac,

Was just searching for some Armstrong information and came across
your article.

Might be able to help, since there is some striking similarity  :)

On the Hotchkiss and Armstrong side there is a connection with the
Vicars family tree.

Robert Vicars married Mary Hotchkiss, the eldest sister of my great great grandfather Richard Philip Hotchkiss on my Hotchkiss side.

On the Armstrong side of the family, John Armstrong who married Grace McLachlan was the brother of my great great great grandfather James Armstrong.

Most of the family lived very near each other and accounts of even second
cousins staying with relatives, since it was safer to stay with extended family. Most of the Vicars, Armstrongs and Hotchkiss cousins mostly worked primarily in mining.

If you wish any more info, will be happy to shed some light  :)

Best regards,

Richard

I just found these post today regarding the Vicars/Hotchkiss family. I am the great (3back)  Granddaughter of Robert Vicars and Mary Hotchkiss. Their son John married Jeane Russell and immigrated to the US/Wyoming in I believe 1884, their son Robert married Maude Bowcutt they had two children John Phillip (Jack) Vicars, and Robert Mathew Vicars. My Grandfather Robert Mathew was less than a year old when their father was killed in a coal mine in Diamondville, Wyoming in 1911. Their mother Maude died a few years later leaving the two boys orphans. They lived knowing little to nothing of their Vicars family. As a matter of fact, it has only been with in the last 15-20 years that we even knew we were Scottish. I have found some information but would love any information on our family that anyone could share. Thanks in advance for any information you might have, Bobbi

Hi Bobbi

Robert Vicars & Mary Hotchkiss had many children (at least 9).
Their son John b 23/8/1855 Renfrewshire, had a sibling Alexander b 20/4/1864, that is the line i'm researching.

What info are you looking for?

When Robert died in 1911 his wife Maude remarried very quickly and the two little Vicars boys lost most contact if not all with their Vicars family. We know nothing, I was hoping to find out if anyone has pictures, stories, anything?? I am just a beginner at this and I could use all the help and advice anyone has to offer. Also If Richard Phillip Hotchkiss's family reads this, I wanted to share with you that I have a Vicars cousin here in Utah who could be Richard Phillips identical twin just seperated by a century or more. Thanks for you reply Sue!
