Welcome to Rootschat,

It's a great site, full of volunteers finding spare moments to all help each other, not just on the Fromelles-missing, here on the WW1 boards, but on lots of other boards too.

I hope that your posting re DNA will be answered, it may take couple or days or more, but I am sure your DNA info is part of the solution!

Cheers, again, welcome to RChat.

JM

Hi rwhunge,

Welcome aboard!!

Might I recommend that any descendant's with information about George Hungerford contact us at www fromelles net (sadly this website no longer exists 2014).   We are keen to speak to anyone who might give us a bit more about his life and would especially love to discover a photo of him.

With regards to the DNA, may I suggest you contact the Dept of Defence's, Fromelles Project Group to register your interest and DNA availability with them.   You will find their website at http://www.army.gov.au/fromelles/   I'm certain they will be very interested in your offer.

Cheers,
Tim L.

Talking of DNA ... I came across this and now I can't remember the source ... but I was thinking ... that it sounds like a good idea !!  :)

( though now I really think about it ... it would probably be fraught with all kinds of confidentiality restrictions !!  :-\ )

Thinking of Mitochondrial DNA which may have been all that was left have we looked for descendants in the female line of his sister and mother?

Best,

I haven't been able to locate any information about www fromelles net
What is the affiliation of this website? Also I would be interested in finding the Hungerford family tree on GR - how do I find this?

Thanks, I'm new on here,
Tahu

Hi Tahu,

I'm one of the Project Leaders of the Fromelles Descendant Database.
I've been a bit absent from here of late because of all the work I've currently got on and I know I'll get distracted by all the interesting research that goes on here :-)

The people here on Rootchat have been invaluable to our research to try and track down descendants of the missing Australian soldiers recovered from the mass graves at Pheasant Wood.

The FDD is a volunteer research project set up to assist in tracing these descendants with the hope of identifying as many remains as possible.   As you may know another 14 have just been identified taking the total to 110 out of 250.   There's still plenty of work to do but I know there are still a great many descendants waiting to have their DNA compared in the next rounds of testing so here's hoping there's still many more identifications to be made.

Is there anything specific you would like to know about our work?   I'm quite happy to answer any of your questions or alternatively you can email me directly from our website.

Cheers,
Tim L.

Hi, I am the grandson of Francis Cecil Hungerford, the brother of George William Hungerford,  mentioned in Ruskie's post. Do you have the exact date of his marriage in 1921 to Ada May Higgins?

Hi there,

Welcome to RootsChat, an amazing place.   I have sent a personal message to one of Fromelles Missing team, in case they have the answer to your enquiry.

I am sure that other RChatters will also be along shortly.

Many cheers,  JM (one of the RChatters who posted on Ruskie's thread  :) )
