1851 query????????

On the 1851 census... John Cory Withers born 1838, Parents John and Mary Withers, Bristol.  There is also a nephew Gostwacke Marcy age 17 born 1834, occupation.apprentice.  Is that a mis spelling if so could somebody kindly interperate the name.

It looks like Gostwycke to me, and according to 1841 his surname is Masey.

I agree with Tati - I read it as Gostwycke Marcy, born Bristol

and, although I have not found this one on Free BMD there is one other Gostwycke  (Cheeswright, born Rotherham in 1887) so evidently a name even if not well used!

IndisVanyar, Did you see where Elizabeth was born?  I,m trying to connect her to the Cory family who came from Devon.  Found a marriage 1818 between Edward Masey and Elizabeth Warren Cory.

  Father Edward Masey
  Mother Elizabeth Warren      St Stephens Church Bristol Glous.

  On checking the batch number there are 8 Masey children baptised to the couple....
   2 Gostwycks  1831 & 1833
   2 Maria Ann's  1822 & 1824

  also Frances Cory Masey bapt 1828....

  So they seem to fit well.

Unfortunately for us the 1841 census only gives a yes or no for born in the county where the census is being taken so there is no knowing (from this census return)
where Elizabeth, aged 45, came from originally
