Flood families in Dublin - 1840's

Hi, I'm new to this, so please help if you can.

My great grandmother stated that she was born in Harold's Cross in about 1850, to Michael Flood and his wife Bridget (Brennan). The family was supposed to come from Grange Con, Wicklow (where a family of Floods still lives). The Baltinglass parish records do not seem to show a Michael Flood (lots of other Floods including the Grange Con ones), but they are in poor condition.

There are some Michael Floods in Dublin in the Directories of the day, but it's hard to know who is who.

Does anyone know this family?

Ancestral File on LDS site (www.familysearch.org) has one daughter of Michael and Bridget listed: Anne Flood born 1844. Since it is submitted information it might not be accurate but if you check the entry you can see submitter's details.

The LDS entry was made by a relative and I've seen the parish record entry. I guess it's my GtGdM, but the date is wrong by nearly 10 years. She probably lied about her age.

The Michael Flood/Ellen Branan couple is interesting.

The largest employer in Harold's Cross at that time was Greenmount Cotton factory, which is listed in Thom's 1848. It is described as '..giving employment to a great number of hands....'

It lists the factory as having 100 power looms and 6000 spindles...

it seems possible that if Michael and family lived in Harold's Cross was employed there or maybe an associated trade.  There are a  number of blocks of Cottages and tenements in the area that would probably be occupied by the workers - unfortunately the occupants of these are not generally listed in Thom's

My ancestor John BROOKS of Dublin weaver = Mary Ann Flood (RC marriage) c. 1820 and were probably from the Liberties.  When the silk weaving trade collapsed in Dublin in 1820 they moved to England and settled in  Coventry by 1830 where John continued weaving.  Mary Ann died of asiatic cholera in 1849.  There is mention of a Christopher and a Charles Flood of Coombe (Liberties) and a Patrick at New Market in the Weavers and Related Trades in Dublin 1828, but so far I do not know who Mary Ann's parents were.  Perhaps she was a daughter of Michael Flood? Anyone who knows more of the Dublin Flood families might be able to help.

It probably isn't of much use to you but I have a Maria Josephine Flood amongst my ancestors. She appears to have been born in Dublin in 1858 and was married to Charles Kohler (also known as Carl Kohler), and lived in Phibsborough until at least 1940.

The couple had children by the names of Marie, Gabriel, Ida, Olivia, Otto, Ambrosius, Adelaine, Raphael and Attilia Kohler.
