Hi
The most important thing to me is that this confirms Jeremiah and Celia,

It is good that your main aim has been achieved on the thread. ;D ;D
However, Without wishing to sound negative...I would like to say ...in order to cleary establish the offspring and marriages and deaths of the SHEARMAN's of the  Newcastle area, you should trawl through BDM NSW online records as well as all the available cemetery records,... which often give a small family history as part of the headstone that can  add to the bmd data.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov..au

With such an overlapping of given names to the Shearman family, all in the Newcastle area ,the only way,  to be certain of your line, is to do some logical elimination from these records and then to  purchase the certificates for the events to confirm.

Looking at the above public resources, I saw a great many  entries which could  make your conclusion questionable.

Do you have certificates already to confirm you listed details?

I'm was already sure of my lineage as far as Sarah's brother, John. Sarah isn't in my direct lineage and thus the Shearman's of NSW aren't. At this time I don't want to delve too far into the descendants of Sarah and George, although I'm sure I will follow them up at a later date.
I already had the names of John's parents as Jeremiah and Celia, I just wasn't 100% sure that was right. However I am sure that Sarah is John's sibling and if her death entry confirms her parents as Jeremiah and Celia then it cross references with what I already know.

Could you tell me what you saw that makes you think Jeremiah and Celia being Sarah's parents is questionable please?

Unfortunately, I don't have certs as John was born (and married) prior to 1837. Also Celia died prior to 1837, so I haven't been able to place her with Jeremiah on the 1841 census. I do have Jeremiah with his son George (and George's wife, Mary) on the same census page as Sarah with husband George - as Sharman rather than Shearman (with Celia, George and Mary Ann). I also have previous connections between the Sharman and Scales families.

Hi Just kia,

I did not mean to imply there was any question regarding Sarah's parents.

My posting is about the SHEARMAN's of the Newcastle area and gives consideration to GEORGE JNR's  DAVID's parents.

It looks like for now anyway, these questions can rest!

Sue

I have George Jnr (and sisters Celia and Mary Ann) with George and Sarah on the 1841 census, still in Suffolk, England.
Sorry to sound dim, but I'm not quite following.

But thank you to each who took time to reply =)

Hi Justkia,
I think the source of the confusion lies in a huge typo made by me in REPLY #11. ::) ::)

I have typed GEORGE where I intended DAVID.

It is his birth and parents I am curious about.

There are a number of DAVID Shearman's in the region, a couple of George's and a good mix of Sarah's ,Janes, and Sarah Jane's.

I wondered had you confirmed his birth in Australia?

Sarah SHEARMAN (nee Scales)is an ancestor of my husband. She died at Williamtown N.S.W. ,9 May,1871 aged 57 and was buried at Raymond Terrace in the Pioneer Cemetery. Her parents were Jeremiah Scales, farm labourer and Celia. She was married at 17 years to George Shearman/Sharman/Sherman at Brundish 13 Dec. 1831. At her death, she had been in N.S.W. for 26 years and she ,George and 4 children arrived from Cork on the "Templar" on 27 August, 1844. She had no further children in N.S.W.
We have ,in the past been in contact with Scales researchers and believe Sarah's parents were Jeremiah Scales b.22 Apr 1777 in Stradbroke, Suffolk and Celia Genery/Chenery b. in 1775 in Wilby, Suffolk. Sarah's siblings appear to be John, James,  William, Mary Jeremiah,Elizabeth,Anne,George and Susanna.   Regards,
 ozilyn

Thank you for this.
I'm very interested that they arrived in Australia from Cork - that means after they left Suffolk they went to Ireland first.
I was fairly sure that John's (my ancestor) parents were Jeremiah and Celia. I was very sure that Sarah and John were siblings. So having evidence of Sarah's parents names on documents confirms the names for me. Without going back in time and asking them personally I'm as sure as I can be that I do indeed have the right line here.
I guess that makes your husband and I X cousins n times removed =)
Back in Suffolk the Shearman line is Sharman - I have another connection to the Sharman name on the Suffolk branches (that one also took some unravelling).

Oh goodness, krisesjoint - what an interesting and wonderful find.

There is a marriage of David SHARMAN Widow = Maria MAY 26 Sep 1813 Ipswich St Mary at Quay (only one I can see in the timeframe, but if its him, he is listed as widowed)

There was a David SHERMAN buried at Redlingfield 23 Dec 1814 aged 37 years

There was a Mary SHARMAN buried at Redlingfield 19 Aug 1816 aged 39 years

George SHERMAN = Sarah SCALES 30 Dec 1831 Brundish

Found some of the baptisms which agree with the immigration records

Sealy SHEARMAN 19 Aug 1832 Brundish
George SHERMAN 6 Oct 1833 Brundish
Mary Ann SHERMAN 22 Nov 1835 Brundish

Cheers Kris  :)

PS I would suggest they left from London not Cork. The Ship sailed from London on May 2 to Cork on May 16 and on to Australia
