Janey, I went hunting for 148 High Street Harefield today and unfortunately the numbers stop at 142. However the land where it would have been is very close to where Cumberland House(in my previous post) stood, so close they could have been one and the same. Anyway its now a small Close off the main High Street with half a dozen or so houses, situated halfway between St Mary`s church and the village shops. Also, I remembered today, that at the end of the High Street shops is a cross roads with the village green on one corner - which is known locally as Collett`s Corner.

Hi Janey,

I am related to William, he is my Great, Great Grandfather  I believe 148 was known as Caseys Court (officially know as Cumberland Cottages which was where my Grandfather was born.   The vicarage was indeed built by the Colletts I believe "Jobe" Isaac.  We have the family tree back to William and will look it out if you are interested.

Hope to hear as you have light on the tree further back for me.

According to "Life and Work in a Middlesex Village" by Geoffrey Tysack.  What was known as Casey's Court was a row of Cottages in Church Hill owned by Mr Collett together with an adjoining orchard which he patrolled regularly (1896).

Thank you - I know it was at the opposite end of the high street to Colletts corner (where the fishing tackle shop was, William the moved to 5 Priory Cottages approximately 75 years ago - we have photos of the family with the three sons William, Alfred, David.  Alfred is the only suruviving of the three.  William "Bill" passed in May and David in June 2005.  There was a sister but she died at the age of two.

Hi Daisy May,
I came across this post today and wondered if you'd seen a website by Brian Collett, www.collettfamilyhistory.net?

He has traced the family history right back to the 1300s.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but did David Collett have a son called Joseph, who married someone called Annie (no idea of the surname)?

I believe that one of the children was Charles William Collett, who marries Lilian Kuhn?

Regards

Katherine
