« on: Friday 08 May 09 16:36 BST (UK) »
Hi all wondering if anyone can give me advice please. I've been doing my Mytton family tree and have started a webpage. I have got back as far as Edward Richard Mitton, Mytton born C1812 hes on the igi marrying Ann Harper Archer. The problem I now have is how do I get back further to his parents, his births not on igi but he was born in Birmingham do I have to go round the churches etc I'm not sure. Any advice gratefully excepted please .

Hi

I see that they married in St Thomas, Dudley in 1833. Maybe if you could get hold of the marriage entry and find out who the witnesses were it may give a lead. They could be relatives.

Looking at a database I have of Mytton/Mitton names, Edward Richard Mytton is in there, unfortunately parents' names not given.

Gadget's suggestion of getting a copy of the marriage entry, as witnesses may give a clue, is your best bet, hopefully another Mytton was a witness.

Jayne, just because someone's name isn't on the IGI index, it doesn't necessarily mean that the LDS don't have films covering the area.  The LDS have thousands of films waiting to be transcribed, so you should try to find out if they have any films covering the geographical area of interest.  Then you can order the films and view them at your leisure at your local LDS centre.

Hi Nick

As I read it, Jayne doesn't know which parish he was born in so would have to order a number of films and search through them all. I don't think that she's keen to do that  :-\

My cousin and I once looked at the films from about 20 parishes and have still not found a burial of one of our ancestors. It is a hard slog.

Thanks Nick at the moment I'm hoping that the person going to Dudley archives at weekend will find out some more info on the marriage as the only thing I know about Edward Richard Mittons (Mytton) birth that he was born in Birmingham c1812.  As i don't live in Birmingham anymore thats made my research quite difficult and have only been able to actually attatch my husbands grandad to a Mytton family through the 1911 census after about 9 years of searching as his mum Ruth fibbed on his birth cert and Albert Henry Mytton my husbands grandad had a different dads name on his marriage cert as it turned out he was born out of wedlock .  If all else fails I will contact the lds and follow that line.  Thanks for your interest.
