William DOWSING of Bredfield
« on: Friday 08 May 09 12:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
Can anyone help with:

William Rogers Dowsing b. Bredfield 1849)) was the son of William Dowsing and Sussanah Grimwood. I believe that he had a brother called Edward…probably a bit younger.   He married a woman called Julia E…..? They ended up in Brighton, Sussex with 7 or 8 kids (the second youngest being Ethel Elvina Dowsing b. 1887 in Romford Essex).

We are having trouble linking William the elder (husband of Sussana) with the rest of the tree so that's the key info. I'd really like to have. Anything also welcome of course.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Thank you both very much for those. Very kind.

I'll go to work unscrambling the info. and seeing if I can fit onto my tree, though at a quick glance any info. about William the Elder's origins aren't going to be available from these censuses.

There is a William Dowsing  bp 27/5/1821 at St Mary's Woodbridge listed on IGI.
His parents are given as James Dowsing and Mary Rogers.

There are also 2 Edwards born to the same parents.
Edward  bp 3/1/1834  died  1/1/1836
Edward  bp. 15/5/1837
Both  baptised at ST. Mary's  Woodbridge.

Bredfield is only a few miles from Woodbridge.

Hello Charlie,
Thanks for that.
They're not on my Dowsing gedcom, but that's only 298 people.
I have asked a cousin who knows far more than I do, though she's on holiday until next week so it may take a while.
The Dowsings of Ipswich, Woodbridge, Bredfield, Dallinghoo and Melton do seem to be one large family, if only we could link them all up.
Yours
Brian
