James Vickress, died 1852 Shoreditch, lookup please!
« on: Wednesday 06 May 09 17:17 BST (UK) »
Hello all, I am anxious to know if anyone can tell me what James Vickress's (who died Dec 1852, either Shoreditch 1c 147 or 149) death certificate says regarding his age or origin, and whether there is any mention of his relatives. I would like to know if he is the same James Vickress who was born in 1809 in St Anne Soho, London, to whom I am probably very distantly related.

Many thanks!

The only way to find out what he died of is to purchase the relevant death certificate, it should give you his age, where he died and who registered the birth, if he was a widow it might be nearest next of kin if he had any, OR  a superintendant of a hospital

There does not appear to be a James Vicress on 1851, but a Thomas James aged 5

1851 Ho107/1512 folio 122 page 14
Can't read the address but it is St Clement Danes

Henry father 50  Tavern Keeper bornEssex Laindon
Ann 40 born Kent Deal
Ann Emily 13 Middlesex London
Charlotte Marrian 11 Brompton
Elizabeth 7 Brompton
Thomas James 5 Fulham

NO SORRY, HE IS ON 1861. CAN'T BE THOMAS JAMES, I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED HIM TO BE ON 1851 IF HE DIED IN 1852, BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Hi cimbrio

this webpage will tell you the sort of information you will find on an English death certificate of circa 1852.

http://home.clara.net/dixons/Certificates/deaths.htm

This family was living in the East End of London on the 1841 census -son John baptised in Bethnal Green.

1841 census HO107 693/5 folio 48
Bethnal Green
James Vickress 50 Comb maker
William Vickress 20 Comb maker
James Vickress 13 Comb maker
John Vickress 9 Comb maker
Ann Vickress 47 Comb maker
all born Middlesex

Son William was married in Shoreditch on the 1851 census. Son James was in Bethnal Green, though his daughter's death was registered in Shoreditch in 1861.

The only way to know for sure whether it is James senior is to purchase the death certificate. The death registration in 1852 is the only death registration for a James Vickress in Middlesex between 1841 and 1852.

Did you every find info on this James Vickress,, I just ordered the death cert last week in the hope it would confirm his age at death and match back to 1790 approx.  He is my gggggrandfather.

If not I will have the cert in a few weeks.   I now have every Vickress who ever lived on my tree.  The only birth record i could find is a James Vickers.   ::)

The most remote Vickress ancestor I was able to find was William Vickress, born in 1787 in Hope under Dinmore, son of William Vickress and Mary Williams; William Sr was from (I think) Wellington, a village near Hope. Do you think your James Vickress was a native of London, or rather he came from another county? It's possible he came from Herefordshire, isn't it? Have you any idea where he came from, roughly?

Okay all you bright genealogists, let's see if you can figure this out, or point me in the right direction.  James Vickress is my oldest realive that I have been able to trace.  Then the Vickress name goes dead.  My callenge is that I can't find his birth.  He was married to Ann Hulseberg in 1815 and is listed in the 1841 census (age 50)  as per below and in the 1851 census (age 56).  He dies in 1852 (age 62) as I have his death vert and that is the man.  On the 1851 census it reports he is born in Middlesex, and I assume this means London

So my assumptoin is that he is born in London between 1790 - 1795.  No such birth can be found.  So my assumption is that the name must be variant like Vickers.  I found 2 James Vickers, one born 1878 and batprised in `1795 and another born 1793.  Further corss check proved that are not my man.

So I am stumpted.  Can anyone offer suggestion on what to try next?

Cheers, *

James Vickress bapt 1809 St Anns Soho, parents were Edward and Maria Charlotte.
Edward is buried Finsbury St Luke 27/08/1835 aged 60
Maria Charlotte buried 18/11/1857 aged 80 Nunhead cemetery

It would appear that Edward and Maria had another son,  Thomas bapt 1811 St Ann's Soho

There is another bapt William at St Botolph Aldgate 11/10/1807 having been born 18/08/1807, address given Somerset St.

This doesn't bring you much nearer your man. I do realise that baptisms usually happen within a few weeks of a birth  way back when but sometimes they aren't as I have found in the past, 1809, well I don't know?, also I have been told, don't know how true it is that wedding couple's had to be baptised to get married, once again I don't know for sure.

I think you will only find your man through a baptism as registration didn't start till  about July 1837

Have you got any witnesses on his marriage in 1815?
