Hello Gwenj

On familysearchlabs site, some of Darlington's BTs are listed under Parlington  ::)  :D

However, as you say, they seem to start with only burials and baptisms, so you may need to trawl right through to find the marriages as sometimes some of the transcripts are out of order

Durhamrecordsonline don't have marriage records for St.Cuthbert's for that year, however I did a search including the year, and the marriage is listed in the Paul Joiner marriage index, (that is pay-to-view)  http://www.joinermarriageindex.co.uk/search.php
so it looks as if the information you have from the IGI is correct.

Kind regards
Barbara

Thank you for your reply Barbara.Have looked through all 252 pages for St Cuthberts and there are no marriages,in any order, for 1763! In fact, there seem to be very few marriages recorded at all!Would there be records anywhere else do you think? As I said in my original post,it's on the IGI so there should be a record of it somewhere!

Gwenj

Hi GwenJ

The registers for St. Cuthberts are at Durham County Record Office, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL
http://www.durham.gov.uk/Pages/Service.aspx?ServiceId=448

You may not get much more information from the record though, other than their names, and witnesses, and whether or not they were living in the parish at the time of the marriage

Barbara  :)

Darlington library has St Cuthbert's records on film, and Indexes for the earlier ones. I might be going tomorrow and will check it out.

Colin

Hi Colin,Thank you VERY much for that.As Sarah is noted as a Widow, would Scruton be her Maiden name or her married name? Its also interesting to see that there is a Gerard Wharton as a witness.Gerard Blisson Wharton, the Solicitor must have been named after him! I wonder where the middle name Blisson comes from? An unusual name, must look this up!Thanks again,Colin and if you get a chance to look at other references that I made I would be most grateful.
