Thanks - I went to Kington yesterday, Friday and spent the morning with 2 ladies from the Historical Society.  I got quite a lot of information.  I had already visited the Museum and obtained copies of some relevant photographs from their vast collection.

I am following up on all the information collected.

Thanks again - Skillicorn Archive

I guess it's over a year since the last entry but I only came across this today.
I am the great grandson of John & Rachel Skillicorn.
George (my Grandfather) died a prisoner of war in Sept 1918 and is buried at Glageon in Northern France.
He and Sarah had 1 daughter Joan born in 1915 who married my father in 1938. Sarah died in 1970 and Joan in 2008.

I remember my mother saying that she had a cousin Zena in Kington with whom she got up to all manner of mischief. I imagine this was a daughter of Mary.
If you think I may have more detail of interest to you please let me know

Now there's a puzzle. He was George Albert Nash Skillicorn (known as Albert)
To the best of my knowledge there was only one Skillicorn family in Kington at that time and he had no brothers that I am aware of.
So who is the second Skillicorn on the plaque?

The Kington memorial plaque does seem to have a few errors......one of my relatives Thomas ABELL is listed on the plaque they have spelt his name with one "L". ;)

Are they deaths or men that served?
I suggest that it is probally a admin error or the monumental stonemason had been in The Burton Hotel most of the day! ;D
