Umm,

So logically these lads all fell around the same day of the same month of the same year, and the German handed back discs.  Umm,

Perhaps, with the efficiency of the German bureaucracts, has anyone looked for the list of names that the Germans handed over, and then had that list translated?

Just trying to help, and getting so confused here in NSW Australia.  We are having a quick break to re-think and get out the monte carlos etc so we can get stuck into the AIF records and glean, BUT ONLY if you think that will HELP rather than HINDER.  Please let us know ASAP.
Just Moi.

Would it be better to have a separate thread for each name?   It's getting very confusing.

I have checked through Caswell's file.  You are correct about the father's name appearing on page 27, however, that is not his signature.  AIF have written that to advise that the items had been dispatched to the father.  The medals were signed for by the mother.

I still haven't ascertained how I arrived at the conclusion the father was deceased on enlistment!!!  :-\

PS:
Father: Eberron Caswell
died Newcastle 1919 Reg No 7198

Obviously I added the notation on the wrong file.

Hi Sandra,

Derrr Blonde is here in NSW.  What makes it so confusing to me, is that my own oral history has a Kiwi fallen there in that trench line at that time.  I have found his KIWI info, and have read some military history which indicates that his unit was attached to the Aussies, and perhaps kitted out by them.  His public info is found at the http://www.aucklandmuseum.com/130/cenotaph-database under Eddie VAZEY.  His second cousin is still living, nearly 90, and a resident of a retirement home in rural NSW.  His date of death is recorded as 22 June 1917.
"The line in the mean-time was being held by the 3rd Australian Division as far south as St. Yves, and by the 4th New Zealand infantry Brigade* from St. Yves to the Lys.  The Brigade .... was now in the line for the first time, having taken over the sector on June 10th. It had not yet joined up with the Division however, but was for the time being attached to the Australians. "  It is possible that my geography lessons are inadequate, and this location may not be anywhere near Fromelles.  Whether or not, both my OH and I are willing to try to help the project.

Just need some guidance.

Moi

I have put the censuses for Douglas Caswell on a new thread.  This is too confusing.   Anyone else who wants to come in and help may find disjointed to go through.
