Have only just found this web site and so am a bit late in posting.  My 3 greats grandparents were James Hillyard and Lucy Clark and I have never been able to get any further back than James.  I was delighted to find his parents details.  James' son George was my 2 greats grandfather and his daughter Maria was my great grandmother.  She had my grandfather  Charles George out of wedlock.
Hi John

I've extracted quite a lot of Hillyard info from the Piddington registers as my great great grandmother was Hannah Hillyard.   Her parents were James Hillyard & Lucy Clark.

Andrew Hillyard was the natural son of Alice Hillyard.   He was baptised at Piddington on 14th December 1794.   Alice also had a son called William, who was baptised 15th September 1799.

James Hillyard was the son of Edward & Hannah Hillyard.   He was baptised at Piddington on 13th August 1797.   Edward & Hannah also had Susannah, baptised 17th February 1799.

In my notes I've written that James Hillyard married Lucy Clark at Piddington on 10th November 1818, but that info isn't in my extracts from the parish register!   Either I missed it out or someone else gave me the information and I assumed Piddington, so sorry that's a bit unclear.

What I do have from the register is that James Hillyard married Elizabeth Shrewsbury 11th May 1817.   I haven't "done" the burial registers yet, so can't say for certain that she was a previous wife who died, but he's the only James Hillyard I have.

Andrew Hillyard married Sophia Whitbread 18th November 1822.

I hope this helps and if you would like more of my extracts just let me know.

Diana

Amendment!

I have now found the marriage of James Hillyard to Lucy Clark at Piddington!   It was one of 3 that were inserted at the end of the register and I had kept it in that order in my notes.   Both were of the parish of Piddington and made their mark.   The witnesses were George Clark and Susannah Clark.

Going back to the marriage of James Hillyard & Elizabeth Shrewsbury, they were otp too and made their mark.  The witnesses were William Shrewsbury & Sarah Shrewsbury.

Regarding the marriage of Andrew Hillyard my notes say he signed the register and Sophia Whitbread made her mark.  They were both otp.  The witnesses were Benjamin Whitbread and Sarah Ann Hillyard.

Hi Beembe48

How nice to find another relation!

I'm glad our postings were useful.   RootsChat is a great site as everyone is so helpful.

I haven't had much time for my tree recently but live in hope of another visit to Northampton in the New Year.  Hopefully I'll make some progress with the HILLYARD branch then.

Good luck with further research!

Hi Diana Thanks for replying.  It would be interesting if you know anything about Edward Hillyard's parents and also James's siblings.  Thanks Brenda

Hi Brenda

I don't have a lot on the HILLYARD family going backwards.

Edward HILLYARD married Hannah HARRIS at Piddington on 2nd July 1797.   Both were of the parish and made their mark.   The witnesses were John WESTLY & John HENMAN.   I haven't identified Edward's parents or Hannah's.

James HILLYARD had a sister called Susannah who was baptised at Piddington on 17th February 1799.   She married Abraham LIMAN by Banns at Piddington on 8th October 1821.   Both made their mark.   Abraham's parish was Hanslope in Buckinghamshire.   The witnesses were James HILLYARD & Susannah SPENCER.

Hope this helps a bit.   I have some info on James' children if you would like that.

Best wishes,

Diana

Hi All,

Just found this thread!

I am researching the Hillyard family, my 4 x greatgrandfather was Andrew Hillyard.

I also have some of the Hakes family from Piddington, through marriage to my Whitbread family.

Would love to know more about Andrew, who his parents were, did he have any siblings etc.
