Weardale is close to Tow Law in relative terms and Tow Law came under Weardale  1894 - 1938 ( source Free BMD).
In terms of Stanley, are you aware there are two Stanleys in County Durham, one of which is Stanley Crook. DL15 9AN is the postcode of the local school so you can see it on google maps or another search site. As you will see it is very close to Tow law. Can I suggest you ask Adamand who has many details of gravestones in County Durham.
The other Stanley is more north of that as you will see on the maps.

Hi, thanks for that info. I know the area very well and still have relatives in Tow Law - I have already communicated with Adamand re gravestones and he couldn't come up with anything. In desperation I got in touch with the Records Office and they don't have a record of a death in their area at that time for an Isabelle or Isabella Edgar but they did say that some records have got lost.  So I think its going to be a case of going to the graveyard and having a look and hope that she actually had a headstone.  My other slight problem is that according to my aunt Isabella was buried at Stanley (according to my grandfather) BUT I dont think they had actually finished building the church when Isabella was buried AND I can't understand why she would be buried in Stanley when she lived (and died) in Tow Law and there was a church there.

So keep digging I think.  I am still waiting to hear back from the lady who is trying to find one of the old ancestors in Workington area.  These are some of the ancestors of the ones in Tow Law

Hi Jackie,

I am going away for a few days and although I take the computer with me I don't really get a chance to use it very much so I probably won't get back to you for about a week.

In the meantime have you tried the Records Office (I think its in Workington) - don't worry if you haven't I think I still have a contact email address for them I can look that out for you.

Is your mum still with us or you the last one standing as it were?  I can understand where you are coming from when you say you just want to find something so I will do what I can to help.  Whereabouts in the country are you by the way?

Kind regards
Tricia

Hi There

I don't want to confuse things but my great grandfather, Michael Alfred King, was from Whitehaven and married  Margaret Edgar in 1886 in Bessbrook,Northern Ireland. Her father was Hamilton Edgar..

Any connection??
