Digital Camera

[color=Blue]I had a gift of a digital camera recently.
During last week on a paticularly sunny day, I was trying to take some photos and when I looked at the screen all I could see was a dark shading I was unable to see what I was taking so just pressed the button hoping for the best!
Does any one have any idea how one gets around this problem  ::)as my last camera also had a way of looking through as well as the screen to take a photo .

Don't know if your problem was the same as mine, but when I went to take a photo in the beginning of the year, all I got on my camera was a dark screen with the icons showing.   It was suggested that giving the camera a gentle tap on the side would clear the dark screen, which it did for a while, then kaput, no more screen.

Found out later that the model of my camera was no longer in stock due to many complaints of the above.   

It was cheaper for me to buy a new one than get it fixed.

If there isn't a simple optical viewfinder, then there isn't much you can do.  If you set the resolution to the maximum, and point the camera in the general direction of the subject, you should be able to crop out what you don't want afterwards, but you will get fewer photos on the memory card.  This isn't a big problem nowadays, because memory cards are very cheap.

The other thing I did was a google troubleshooting search for the make and model of camera.

Something like this, http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/ProductDetails~productID~5578~categoryid~222.html for example.

In true Blue Peter style you can manufacture a temporary one out of matt black card and attach it to the camera with double sided sticky tape... might not look very elegant but works quite well.

I have a shade on mine but to be honest, it's not much good. I wouldn't buy a camera again without an optical viewfinder as I find I'm taking a lot of photos "blind" in the summer.

Hmmm I am NOT being silly honestly but theres a realy simple solution

Wear a cap with a peak & make sure the shadow is over your viewfinder when you are taking pictures.

My partner has the same problem with his camera and he did this last year by accident & realised it worked!
