Brian --

I am wondering if you found additional information about the Cheshire Fencibles. My husband's ancestor, Jonathan Moores (later Moors), was with the Cheshire Fencibles from 1795 to 1802 (as a private, I believe). Information I located on him also lists him with the 6th Regt of the Foot, and the Glengarry Regt. He received land from the Perth Military Depot as an English settler (Canada) in about 1816.

I'm new to searching in military records, and am trying to determine what records might be available for him. I came across your questions about the Cheshire Fencibles, and was curious as to whether you've located much. I did find some military history on the regiment, but have just started looking.

Regards,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I am afraid I dis not any further with the Cheshire Fencible Regiment.

I think your best bet would be to look in the National Archives at Kew London, but that does not help with you living in America.
I have not been to Kew for six years but looking at  Kew catelogue if you can identify the relevant document you might be able to hget somebody to look at it for you.

I will also try and send you a private message
Regards
Brian

Hi Debbie

His service record from his time in the fencibles and the 6th Foot does not appear to have survived in the National Archives, so it would be interesting to learn where you discovered the information you have. The 1st Battalion of the 6th Regiment arrived back from Canada in October 1806, so I assume he took his discharge in Canada. To research him further you will have to go to Kew (or use a researcher) and look at the muster books for the 1st/6th and working backwards until he joined from the fencibles. I cannot tell from the NA Catalogue if they have the musters from the Cheshire Fencibles.
