WATSON migration England to Australia
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 05:40 BST (UK) »
My ancestors migrated from England to NSW, Australia between Jan 1855- Sept 1856, it is more likely to be 1856 than 1855 as I have searched the library up to 1855. Their names & birth years are as follows:

George Crooks Watson ABT 1830 Edinburgh Scotland
Eliza Watson  ABT 1832 London England
George Crooks Watson 1853 Camberwell England
John Waller Watson 1854 Camberwell England

I have asked for a lookup at the following but haven't had a reply yet "Is yours an SS Great Britain family?"

Hi Lakelass,
Now, you have not given us a state to which they may have immigrated.  Perhaps that is because you do not know ;D

I'm sure you know that Watson is not an unusual name and may not be that easy to search.

However, I did see this death in NSW which is a possibility for
 JOHN WALLER WATSON

20407/1929  WATSON,  JOHN W. father  GEORGE C  mother ELIZA @  ROCKDALE

We would be glad to have any further informaion you have to make the search for their arrival a bit easier.

I presume they came to NSW, as they had 3 children here between 26 Sept 1856 & 14 Oct 1860, although all 3 births were registered on the same day 22 Dec 1861 and their abode was Redfern, NSW Australia. They lived in NSW until their deaths.

Hi Lakelass

We have family descended from George Crooks Watson - his daughter Hannah Melville Watson who was born in NSW. I haven't been able to find their immigration records as yet. I was wondering if you'd be able to let me know which ship they came across on.

Thanks
Deborah

Hi Debbie,

If you go to: Mariners and ships in Australian Waters web site

Ship is LIGHT OF THE AGE

OF LONDON, J. C. GIBSON, MASTER, BURTHEN 1287 TONS
FROM THE PORT OF LONDON TO SYDNEY NEW SOUTH WALES, 3RD JANUARY, 1860
Do you have any information on the Watsons before they came to Australia.

If you want to contact me send me your email address.

Regards Fiona

Hi Fiona

Thanks for that information. I sent you a personal message containing my email address, but as I'm a rootschat novice I'm not sure whether it has reached you or not. Please let me know if it hasn't gone through.

Thanks
Deborah
