Astbury
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 00:12 BST (UK) »
Wonder if anybody can help,,am tracing the family of a cousin and have her 3xg grandfather as a Thomas Astbury (who married a Sarah Sandbach). Their daughter was born 1818 in Preston Brook Cheshire - he had died by 1851 and in 1841 was living in Liverpool (but did not come from lancs) So I wonder if he came from Cheshire - especially with the name Astbury. Thanks
Susan

Hiya Suse...ok...preston brook is 6 miles from where I live..
ANNE ASTBURY married JOSEPH BUCKLEY in 1844 in St Marys church Whitegate(this is Preston Brook  area)....this marriage is on
www.cheshirebmd.org.uk  can you check this marriage out ?
Ref No is 154/1/69.....be back  soon.....allan
OK Suse......there are 28 babtisms in Whitegate (preston brook) area for ASTBURY....but I can`t find ANN b 1818....so I don`t think these Astburys are Thomas and his family....the Thomas in Preston Brook  around 1800 is
Thomas Astbury babtised 5 oct 1800.......this Thomas marries a Mary Hopley 25 july 1822.......looks like a dead end....check it out yourself......go to Cheshire Resources thread and look for the www.csc.liv.ac.uk/cprdb link and then click on DATABASE....then babtism/marriage/burial  then type in the surname ASTBURY........good luck....allan

Yes, I am the same person! I am chasing up Astbury for a cousin (so Sarah mcMurtry would have been her great aunt...) hence my interest there!
Thx

Mills of Merrion Row was a catering/confectionery business through two generations of  Joseph Edward Mills.  Are you sure that Ernest was JEM's brother?

yes, it was!  How bizarre - JE Mills was my grandfather, so we must be cousins of a sort.
I don't know what the protocol is - I'm gatecrashing the Astbury conversation. Do we start a separate string, or what?
