There is a will for John Mickle LYALL (which you probably have), of Tooradin, died 18 December 1925.  The will is dated only 2 days earlier than his death.

Probate is granted to his wife Medora LYALL and son Harewood LYALL, motor mechanic, both of Tooradin. he does not name any other children but states that on the death of his wife the property should be divided among any surviving children.

If you look on the white pages you will find entries for LYALL in the general area - Cranbourne, Langwarrin etc, although I see Harewood in South Melbourne by 1977.  They may not be related but would be worth a call or a letter I would have thought.

According to the birth entries Harewood was a son of Cecil and John, b 1899.

I see this death entry

Thanks. I have long since managed to sort out this family. Charles Warburton Carr and his wife Geraldine nee Curr have one living descendant, with whom I am now in contact. I took her to visit the Lyall homestead in Cranbourne, which meant a lot to her. Sadly she will be the end of the line as she has no children - but lots of interesting information and photos.

I'm still curious to know more about the ward of the state who was placed with the Carrs.

Hi,

Click on this link (or copy & paste), and download the image : http://www.access.prov.vic.gov.au/public/component/daPublicBaseContainer?component=daViewRecord&breadcrumbPath=Home/Access%20the%20Collection/Browse%20The%20Collection/Sub-Item%20Details&entityId=090fe273817b142b

You'll see a box "If licensed out", and under 'to whom' the name seems to be Chas W. Carr, Police Magistrate, Avoca.

Would love your comments.
