help with Thomas HOSKING
« on: Wednesday 29 April 09 11:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm to sure if I'm in the right place at the moment so I apologize in advance if I am..

I'm searching for a Thomas C I Hoskings who Married Violet Primmer in 1919 in Reading Berkshire.
Her parents are William and Rose, and she was born in Reading around 1887.
My problem is I can't find Thomas living with parents in Reading or Berkshire on any census? ???and I'm afraid I know little of him at all except he seems to have married my great  gr Aunt
I can find no trace of them living in Reading or even Berkshire after their Marriage and as Hosking seems to be a Devon, Cornish, surname I wonder if they moved away, perhaps he was Born in Devon?
I know it's not alot to go on, but If anyone could help I would appreciate any information
 Many thanks....

get a copy of their Marriage Cert - it should reveal his age and his Father's name and occupation.

it may say 'Of full age' (21 or over), but unless he was less than 19, he will be on the 1901 census, and coupled with any clues about his father we may well be able to find him and track back for you.

If all his initials are shown in a Birth Index entry, that will also be a good start !

Many Thanks LKL,

Yes thought of doing that but as I have quite a vast collection of certs for OH-s family tree and some are quite completely wrong so reluctant to waste to much money on Aunts and Uncles.. ;)
However will proably go down that route at some stage though, and come back here with details then if can't find him..!

Had a quick look, and I think he's using 'Charles' in 1901 ...... father also Charles.

Good luck  :)

I wouldnt worry; if its deemed necessary I'm sure it will be moved.

anyone interested wont restrict their viewing to just one part of the Forum in my experience.

After a bit of Searching think I might have found him on the Military list...THOMAS CHARLES IRVINE HOSKING  -Army service corps..
Maybe thats how he met Violet, as Reading has a big Army Barracks, perhaps he was stationed there along with her brother..
All guess work I know, but initials fit in with his name and maybe thats how he came to be in Berkshire! Does not solve where they went after they wed though.. ;D
