There are also baptisms of John 1837 and Christopher 1833.

Could the children on 1841 census be their grandchildren?or Mary at least?

OK I take that back, having a meno............ moment.

Possible baptism for Christopher URWIN;

12 February 1786, Birtley, Northumberland
Parents James and Mary

1841 Census has son James 15, son of Christopher and Mary so possible connection ;)
And pretty close to death of Christopher, Chester le Street, aged 87, born circa. 1783

OK PUT EVERYTHING ON HOLD ::) ::)

We have 2 Christopher Urwins with wives Mary in 1841 Census, Benwell, Northumberland, both with daughters Mary :P

One Christopher born c 1790 and one 1802.

The baptisms I found of John 1837 and Christopher 1837 probably belong to this couple.

Census 1841
Benwell,St John
Northumberland     HO/107/824/5

Christopher URWIN, 39, pitman, born in county- yes (1801)
Mary, 40, no                                                               (1800)
Mary, 15, yes                                                              (1826)
Thomas, 11, pitman, yes                                             (1830)
Christopher, 8, yes                                                      ( 1833)
John, 5, yes                                                                 (1836)
Robert, 2, yes                                                              (1839)

Birth;

Robert URWIN
March 1839
Newcastle on Tyne
25 358

So is this the Christopher and Mary BLACKBURN married 1823?And the Mary (daughter) baptised 1829?, with age rounded up?

2ND one;

1841 Census
Benwell, St John, Northumberland     HO107/824/5 St John

Christopher, 50, coalminer, (1791)
Mary,50                                                               (1791)
James, 15,                                                           (1826)
Ann, 15                                                                 (1826)
Mary, 10                                                                (1831)

This is probably the couple from 1813/14 marriage  plus other children probably born to this couple who have left home by 1841 Census.

Will look at all this again tomorrow, unless any one wants to try and sort it out later as it is 2.00 am here ::)

Cheers,
Trish

I think this family belongs to my OH  ;D
OH is totally uninterested in family history so I haven't done much with this lot so probably can't be much help but am very interested to see what Christopher Urwin's wife's surname actually was as I have a ? ? ? there.

I have bits and pieces that may be useful but not much I'm afraid.

Good luck Alan

Just checked a couple of things that I have-

I believe that Christopher and Mary were probably married c. 1825 +/- (which means that the Mary Blackburn in 1823 has my vote)
The children I had listed for Christopher and Mary were Thomas 1831, Christopher, John and Robert but wasn't aware that there was a Mary as well.  ::)

The other two marriages in 1813/14 were too early to belong to this couple. Christopher was born c. 1802 so doubt he was married at age 11 or 12  ;D

I have the death of Christopher Urwin as:
Christopher URWIN, age 83, June 1885, Morpeth, 10b 251

His wife Mary died June qtr 1868, Morpeth aged 67

Christopher remarried March qtr 1869 to Elizabeth Farish

Please don't take my word for this - I have no certs or sources and only some very old notes.  ::)

If it is the Christopher born 1802 then you could order up the birth certificate for the youngest son Robert born 1839 and that would provide it.

I am interested in the fact that there are three baptisms for a Mary Urwin in NCL St John to, apparently, the same parents.  It may be worth checking to see if there are burials for the first two.  If there are then they may be the same couple and that would make them the older option rather than the younger.

It may also be worth following the lines of any other children for the older couple - they may have moved to Durham to be close to family - certainly Mary was there, if she is their daughter.
