windsor - Rosina Skinley
« on: Sunday 26 April 09 18:33 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help with the birth/baptism or any census info for my gggg grandmother please?
Rosina shows in the 1871 census as married surname then Skeldon, living in Cainham Shropshire, she also shows in 1901 when she had moved to Newport. She was born in Windsor and married George Skeldon in Marleybone. Other than that I am not getting anywhere, I have found a Rose but the birth place is wrong, I would really appreciate any help in moving past this to find the generation before, as I believe her husband was from Perth and I would love to know how they got together!!!!!

They married in Dec 1870, Marylebone, 1a/893

George Skeldon
Rosina Skinley

That certificate will have her father's name and occupation on it.

I'll have a look for her birth.

Jen

Hi both  :)

Just looking at the censuses where she's identified, we have:

1901 : age 52 born Windsor
1891 : age 41 born Swallowfield
1881 : age 32 born Swallowfield
1871 : age 23 born Farley Hill

So I think the Roseena Skingsley age 2 in Swallowfield in 1851 looks pretty good (HO107/1693 61 9) :)

Births Jun 1849

SKINGSLEY  Rosina    Wokingham  6 312

Is Swallowfield in Windsor - not too far away (but not the nearest larger town), sort of on the main road from Reading down to Basingstoke.

a couple of M4 junctions in todays terms  :P

(Hi LKL 8))

Do you have access to censuses or would you like the 1851 census details, Sephton?  :)

Not a prob, Jen  :D

Rosina Skingsley's brother Cornelius had a son Calvin ... not very usual, and the Skeldons had a son Calvin as well  :D

In 1881, Cornelius' birth place is Farley Hill, just as Rosina's in 1871.

The Rosina I am after is the one born in Windsor, she was 52 in 1901 bornBerkshire, Windsor. Calvin has been a family name it has appeared in all generations since Rosina and George got together, and possibly before I suppose. The people you are suggesting are they likely to be the same people, as you can tell I'm quite new to this  ;D
