Stephen Davies
« on: Sunday 26 April 09 10:23 BST (UK) »
Stephen Davies, 241090 Corporal 5th Battalion Welch Regiment was killed in action on March 10, 1918.  He enlisted at Brithdir and was the husband of Gertrude Davies.

I wonder if someone can help locate Stephen & Gertrude on the 1901 census.

Thanks, Roy

Do you know if they were married on 1901 census. What was Gertrudes maiden name?Do you have any ages. Its like looking for a needle in a haystack without more info. You may have more luck when the 1911 census for Wales is released

Sorry Isobelruss, but that's as good as it gets on this one.  As you suggest maybe this one should wait for the 1911 to come on line.  Sorry for waisting your time.  Best regards, Roy

Hi Red
Now youv'e got my attention, I knew a John Hook, good footballer and there was a Bernard Hook so which one is yours.

I posted the drawing earlier on the topic for Bargoed, you should be able to see it there, let me know if you have problems and will send you a copy.

A little on myself; my name is Royston Smith, aged 64,  raised in Brithdir in my grandmother's house [Mrs Brewer] at 1 Wellington Terrace.  My mother, Eileen, remarried to Bill Hayes and we then moved to 4 Charles Street.  I would imagine there is enough there for your husband to know who I am.

For the last three years I have been researching anything and everything to do with Brithdir with the aim of writting its history.  I am well into the project having collected many photos on loan from people in Brithdir and surrounding villages, copied and returned originals by hand the following week.  I am well into researching the names on the Brithdir cenotaph; WW1 and WW2 is of particular interest to me.  Immigration, mining, railway, transport, schools, sports, farms and village characters are just some of the chapters covered to date but with a project so big as researching the whole village then there will be improvements and additions made along the way.  If you can help in any way I would be pleased to hear from you.

Regards
Roy
