I just looked up the BMD for an Isabella Long and there was one that died in 1963 aged 76 but that would make est dob 1887 so I think you are more likely to be right with Isabella Florence as I looked up the BMD for Isabella Holmes and there was one died 1953 aged 74y making est dob 1879 and that is very close to my est of 1880

Isabella (b. abt 1880, Scotland) was a foundation member of the Hinemoa Hockey Team.

In "Women of the Waimakariri" there is a good photo of the first HHC team before their debut match, Isabella may well be in it.  Unfortunately the picture caption doesn't have the names of the team listed.  The picture has however been overwritten with numbers on each of the ladies so the holder of the original might have a list of those pictured.

Oh dear, when I look up the Crusader ship that sailed from Gravesend 13/12/1882 and arrived Lyttelton 22/03/1883 it states Isabella was 2 months... so would that make her dob est October 1882? Tho the info looked up was from
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ourstuff/Crusader1883.htm
so not verified any other way

added The 1881 Scotland Census taken the night of 3/4 April 1881 showed William 25, Rachel 23, Gilbert 1 and Isabella F Simpson 6 Mo. That would make her b. abt Sep/Oct 1880

Thanks for that tip Corkscrew. I have located the online version of that hockey photo. If nothing else comes up I will have to locate the owner of that photo or contact the hockey club to see if they have any further records of Isabella.

oh yeah KHP but then thinking about it perhaps the ships records should have stated 2 years and not 2 months.??? I think I'll stick with the 1880 estimate

I am also thinking 2 years and not 2 months for Isabella.

I tried your link but it did not work Jazzie.

They might have the passenger list at the library so can check there if you like for the arrival into Lyttelton
