I have found a connection to Kaiapoi with a William Simpson settling in Cam Road after coming from Scotland on the ship "Crusader" 1883. He came over with his wife Rachel (nee Bannister), 2 of his 3 children (Gilbert & Isabella) and mother Mary (nee Shanks).
William (b. abt 1856 Scotland) was a warper at the Woollen Mills and heavily involved in the K.W.M.C.
Gilbert (b. abt 1879, Scotland) was an oarsman during 1897-1901 with Arthur Driscoll. He also was connected with the Boer War.
Isabella (b. abt 1880, Scotland) was a foundation member of the Hinemoa Hockey Team.
Another son, James Bannister Simpson (b. 30Nov1921 Kaiapoi) was too connected with the Boer War. He first married a Lillian May Vogel about 1904. After her death in 1910 he then married a Jessie May Bedford in Christchurch 22Sep1911 but settled in Kaiapoi. I descend from this union.
I believe William & Rachel were buried at a Kaiapoi Cemetery tho have not found any online lookups to confirm that. I would love to know what happened to Gilbert and Isabella. I know they were still alive at the death of Rachel 03Nov1921 as her death certificate states Gilbert to be 42yrs and Isabella 41yrs, James 37yrs. I have not managed to track down where James and Jessie were buried. I have no date of death for William. James died abt 1954
If anyone can help with information on any of the above Simpson's I would be most grateful.
