I have info re: Gilbert Bannister Simpson
b. abt 1908 Petone
d. 15 Jan 1966 at Kew Hospital, Invercargill
res. Greenhills, Awarua, Invercargill
occ. Freezing Worker
Returned Solider WW2: A1.30902 ALF (I think these numbers are copied right)
m. Helen Ida Guthrie abt 1954 at Wollongong, NSW aged 46! <Helen b. abt 1906>
no children

Looked up BDM for NSW and found this:
13626/1956  SIMPSON  GILBERT BANNISTER  SCARF  HELEN IDA  WOLLONGONG
I see thats a different maiden name to that on the funeral directors notes.

If Gilbert born in Petone then I wonder if William was too or even if their mother Lillian May (I have seen her name also as Lillian Mary in some records) was buried up near Wellington too?

I have the death notices you needed and photos of the plaques as well.

I have a photo of Gilbert's plaque as well. it is a bit hard to read so will write it up here after I have had a coffee.

I could not find it at first so went back to office to find out what was written on it.

It is written on old white stone with the lettering set in.

I enquired about having the lettering redone and it could be pained black or gold to make it stand out or they said maybe a new plaque would be better.

Will leave that up to you do decide.

Hi Jazzie,

There are three death dates I have found for a Alice Maud(e) SIMPSON

Alice Maud SIMPSON died 23/11/1957 and is buried at Waikumete Cemetery in Auckland Funeral director was J. Weir and Co. Alice is buried in Anglican Division F Row 2 Plot 51. Yes there is a headstone for her.

Alice Maude SIMPSON died 1/6/1955 and was cremated at Waikumete Cemetery. Does not say what happened to her ashes. Funeral director was Watney Sibuns and Sons Limited.

Alice Maude SIMPSON died   23/09/1959 ashes were scattered.
Funeral director was L A Williams. Not sure if the merged with another company or just closed down.

Maybe one of her daughters lived in Auckland.  Just thinking outside the square as they say.

Cheers
