I had considered another Nicholas born also in 1663 born in nearby Burnley. He was a candidate because his surname was spelled as’ Heyworth’ and not Haworth. He married Margaret Pate in 1680. Your candidate may be more likely as John was born two years after his marriage whereas the Burnley Nicholas was married 15 years before the birth of John.

I much appreciate your assistance

Kind regards
James

I have just been reading through my partners history some of his ancestors were from Stang Top.  Three generation buried at Newchurch in Pendle.  I hope it  helps. that's what this site is all about.

Also if you look at Lan OPC the baptism at Altham they are all close.

It does indeed help - thank you.
I’ve visited the Newchurch Graveyard  and driven past Stang Top many times . I’ve  seen the family gravestones. I think you have identified the most likely candidate. They were farmers who then turned to weaving when a weaving mill was built in nearby Barley. I suppose the spelling of the surname depended on the interpretation of the local vicar. His grandson Leonard was referred to as Hewerth in one record.
Many thanks
James
