Hi Moley (we meet again  :) )

noticed that you have mentioned a Schooling on both sides of the family, and in fact a Rose - can you lay out the generations and names in a bit more detail please ?

Out of interest, if you saw the William and Rose in 1891 / 1901 - daughters seem to swap names around etc, and some birth records seemed to be missing ...

This explains some of it. The older girls in 1891 were his step dau's - as seen here in 1881 (same chap, correct PoB etc)

1881 - RG11/1714; Folio: 87; Page: 12 - West Ham (Plaistow ?)
Cherry Island, Tent P.

William Scholing [sic]  28 Head Dock Labourer born Essex, Raine [sic]
Rose Hedges    26 Housekeeper Essex, Ongar
Selina Hedges    3 Visitor Essex, Plaistow
Rose Hedges    1 do Romford

still cant find the Olive shown in 1901 tho (born c1886 - has an Index entry too !)

sorry, the above seems to show that Rose was an individual in her own right - leaving the mystery about Britannia still open   :(

It does that!

Ok so maybe William and Rose are not Britannia's family, or, if they are, maybe she was with another household in 1891.

I can't see a marriage record for William Schooling and Rose Hedges either - can anyone else?

Jen

Its all depending on her Birth Cert now.

The find Ricky made - supported by my 1881 find - has somewhat focused the thread on this William and Rose couple - helped by the fact that they were in the Dartford area in 1901  .....

but when you consider that Brittania is never seen with them, they could be totally the wrong people.

altho, the whereabouts of Olive in 1891 still niggles - were 2 daughters of Wm Spooner with relations 'on the road' in that year ? William's own ancestry is more straightforward back to Rayne / Raines and with his own grandparents in earlier census. Rose Hedges is not; not a sign of her, and the enumeration in the gypsy camp in 1881 makes me wonder if her family were 'travelling folk' ....

Anyway, enough conjecture, the Cert will reveal its facts  :)
