Death at Felling
« on: Thursday 23 April 09 21:33 BST (UK) »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if there was some kind of hospital in Felling in about 1880? My family were from Swalwell, but I know their three year old died in Felling in 1880 (on Christmas Day, poor little mite) and I was wondering why he would be in Felling. Thanks.

Do you have the death certificate? If so, what was the address given on it? And the name of the informant?

Hi all. I don`t have his death cert yet, I have just sent away for it, but living in Cyprus, it takes 3 weeks to reach me so I just thought I would ask if anyone had any ideas.
I know he died in Felling as it is on the gravestone in Whickham St Marys churchyard. His name was Thomas Edward Blackbird from Swalwell and he died on 25th December 1880 aged 3 years.

He could have just been visiting/staying with relatives.
When you get the certificate post the address here and we can do a look up for you.

There was a workhouse behind Felling High Street at that time.

The Gateshead Childrens' Hospital was not built until 1887.
