Baptism Lookup Please - MILES - Redisham

Can anyone help with this problem.

I have the birth certificate for Walter Miles born Redisham 16th March 1859.  The mother is Maria Miles but no name for the father.

Does anyone have access to church records for Redisham where there might be mention of the father if Walter was baptised there?  Might there be bastardy records somewhere ?

Hope someone can help.

There is no Redisham that I know of in Suffolk the place you want is either Redham or more likely Rendlesham.
The records you would need would be from either of these.

There is something odd about Walter Miles.
In 1861  Census he is living with his Grandparents who are Charles and Sarah Kemp and their 7 Children the eldest 13 and youngest 1.    Maria is not with them so are these the paternal grandparents?    Was Walter's father a Kemp ? or was Maria married to a Miles

In 1871 Census    Walter is living  in Needham   Depwade  Norfolk  with John and Maria  Shank and their 6 children  Youngest  3 months  and described as son.
Will investigate further

There's a marriage of a John Shank and Maria Miles 1863 in Depwade (March qtr vol 4b page 367).

No other entries on that page so it's obviously the right couple.

Need to establish the Kemp/Miles link!

It appears that Sarah Kemp (née Miles) was Maria's mother.

That would solve much of the mystery about where the Miles comes in.  Well done.

It also poses another question .  Who was Maria's father ?

According to the 1871 Census, Maria Shank (née Miles) was aged 27 and born in Pulham Norfolk.

I can see only one candidate for her in the 1861 Census.

Clearly she was very young when Walter was born in 1859.

1851 Census: She was with her grandparents Francis and Mary in Pulham. The other members of the household included her unmarried mother Mary Miles.

So we have two challenges:

Who was the father of Maria Miles?
Who was the father of her illegitimate son, Walter?

Hi everyone who is trying to figure this one out it has been taxing me for some time.
Amber 39 the birthplace is definitely Redisham and I have found this parish in Suffolk and the church is St Peter's
I also thought that Maria was the illegitimate child of Sarah Miles who married
Charles Kemp as there is a baptism of Maria Miles 'illegitimate daughter of Sarah Miles' at St Mary Magdalen,Pulham, Norfolk.  Walter Miles later in Life changed his name to Shanks but I do not know if John Shanks was his natural father.  That is what I am trying to find out ! hence the request for ahyone who can look at the parish records
