Hi Jan

The date you have for the birth of Andrew Stewart 22nd of June 1805 is actually his Christening date (from an extracted entry from the parish records on the IGI) and his mother is named as Marjory Mackay. It took place in Kingussie and Insch, Inverness, Scotland.

Andrew Stewart married Margaret Cameron 11th of June 1831 Kingussie and Insch, Inverness, Scotland.

They had several children (from IGI extracted)

John b May 1832 ch June 1832
Henry b October 1833 ch February 1834
Allan b November 1835 ch January 1836
Isabel b March 1838 ch March 1838

Scotlands People has no record of Sarah Stewart* with father Andrew 1835 - 1850 in the whole of Scotland.
*with soundex on

I'll go and have a hunt in the census records.

Interestingly someone else has a family tree online for this family, but they have William John Douch marrying a Sarah Stewart who was born in Bombala NSW Australia.

http://family.soane.net/individual.php?pid=P3627225148&ged=Soane%20Perugini%2022%204%2009.ged

Although the source for this info seems to be a submitted tree on Ancestry.

It is always best to start with the most recent provable event (such as a death) and work backwards using certificates and verified sources to do so. Do you know where your friend got the information you posted?

I have just come across another website dedicated to this family.

http://www.monaropioneers.com/douch-j.htm

It would seem that Sarah Stewart was the daughter of an Andrew Stewart and Margaret Cameron, according to the marriage certificate presumably, but they too have her as born in 1841 in Monaro District, NSW.

However there is no matching record in the NSW BMDs.

This is a real puzzle!

It would appear that Andrew and Margaret had 4 more children once in Oz. However, I can't find them in NSW shipping records.  Wonder if someone else can. If you find that, you will know if Sarah was born out of Australia.

Bombala is on the NSW/VIC border, so maybe they came into VIC ???
