Hi Charlotte - I did download PAF, but I'm on a Mac, and it wont open so I assume its for PC. I'll check out the other website you sent. thanks!

I'm so happy to have found you guys,... what was a very tentative dip into a huge sea of stuff has suddenly become a real and friendly opportunity for me to find out things I've been asking for ages.  :-*

Sorry not to have  asked that question about Mac or not earlier :-[ :-[ :-[

If you g**gle for "genealogy software" AND MAC it should come up with some sites that talks about it... if I find anything I'll post again...

Hi again,
the program called REUNION is I understand the best of the Mac programs but it's not cheap :( :(

Have a browse on the site at the link above and you may find one that is free and OK for Mac...

I have found Mac Family Tree, did a demo and its fantastic - but its £33. Thinking about that!
I found a free one, called  Personal Ancestry Writer (PAW) which I'm trying out now... its very basic, but I suppose its a starting point - I think I'll end up with the £33 in the end as its very Mac orientated and looks great!  ;)

thanks, cx

One of the NB questions to ask about a program if/ when you are buying software is... does the initial purchase price included updates for ever or for X years or not at all and you have to pay for each update?- that needs to be factored in to your thinking if buying.
Family Tree Maker which I use on a pc doesn't include updates and it becomes quite expensive if you want to keep updating it.

If PAW has links with the LDS- [Mormons] and is free to download on their site familysearch it should be OK.

keep us posted with what you're up to...

I read some reviews and Mac Family Tree frequently has updates, and they are for free, sounds quite good!

I have found an Amos who was christened in Keston, Kent on 6 July 1851. His parents were George Beadle and an Elizabeth. Could be him, if he got married in 1887? My husband thought Amos came from Kent. Then there is a marriage listed between a George Beadle and Elizabeth Richardson in 1826, in Surrey -  is it them, I wonder.

carolineb, hi again, do you know about freebmd where you can lookup  births, death and marriages that werre post 1837 ?

G**gle for freebmd

it doesn't give you total answers unfortunately but it does give registration details-person's name , which quarter of the year event was and where for these events- then you can rummage around and check with census etc...
