Hi monks09

A question if I may, which graveyard/s are most likely to hold remains/stones dating from the first half of the 1700's?

My task is not easy as the name I am looking for is Stewart though likely spelt Steuart as some records imply at that time.  Unfortunately the parish records covering my missing link Stewart are not in existance for the years covering the birth of my John who then appears as Shoemaker in Thornhill marrying Isobel Dog (Doig) daught of Walter Dog. John's father was most likely named James.

You'll be looking at Old Kilmadock about a mile from doune on the banks of the Teith.
Some of the oldest graves there are DOG/DOIG.

Surprise surprise!!    :P  My John Stewart married Isobel Dog (b 1743) daughter of Walter and Mgt Cadden  ;)

It's John's parents I am interested in at present as his birth is uncertain and of course missing OPR for Kilmadock at the important time.

I'm not too far away!  :D

Thanks for that!

Hi,

Thanks for the offer to help with Kilmadock. My BURGESS ancestors married there in 1824 and had lots of children, some of whom were baptised in the Bridge of Teith Church.
Robert BURGESS (1795@Dunipace - 1860 in U.S.) married Janet METHVEN (1800@Kilmadock -1875 in U.S.) She was born in the parish, but I haven't located her christening record or parents. The details I have on her are from an old Bible. Children: Alexander (1825-1846), George (1827-1846, John (1828-1829, Jane (1830-1914 in U.S.) John (1830-?), Thomas (1832-1916 in U.S.), Mary (1834-1912 in U.S.), Margaret (1836-1863 in U.S.), Robert (1842-1910 in U.S.) I found all of the children and the father in the OPR, but can't find the mom.
Robert had a first wife, who is probably buried at St. Ninian's, which is where I found the family in the 1841 census.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Sally

hmmm bit of a long shot here but I have a Mary Stewart from Kilmadock in my wife's family tree.  Was married to a William Downie, also of Kilmadock  (both born about 1790).

Their son Robert Downie was born in 1822ish in Kilmadock and was a farmer at Easter Lundie Farm.  I saw some stewarts mentioned earlier on... anyone know of any connection they may have with my Mary Stewart?  Not been able to tace her parents as yet, or an exact d.o.b   ???
