As per my previous post... does anyone know if there is a burial record available online for Kilmadock & Doune?  Am trying to locate William Downie and Mary Stewart who married in 1817.  I cannot find them on the 1841 census so would like to rule out death before exploring other countries!  I have their son, Robert, in Gargunnock later on.

Cheers!   ;D

Sorry Folks I have been kind of quiet latlely. My Father in Law was ill so was spending most weekends driving up to Aberdeen.
Unfortunatly he passed away just before Christmas.
I will get back on the cases as soon as possible.

Hi Carrumba
I just spoke to you on the Stewart board!
I don't think you will find any burial info online other than the post 1855 statutory death registrations you can find on Scotlandspeople.
Have you tried looking for them on the 1841 census on Scotlandspeople? Often the transcriptions on Ancestry are so bad you can't find what you are looking for due to transcription errors- SP is better I think.

Val!  Hello!  Good to meet you again!

Yes, I plan to man an assault on tracking down the Stewarts this weekend if possible by trawling through IGI's and census details.  Then onto potential passenger lists and emmigration.  They seem like quite a slippery pair unfortuantely.  I have managed to locate Williams' grandson (Robert Downie) in Gargunnock graveyard.  The Farm, Knock O' Ronald was in Downie hands for a few decades and one of the crags with a waterfall at Gargunnock is called "Downies' Loup" where "a Downie" supposedly showed his horse riding prowess by leaping it twice before dying on the third attempt - although probably the smaller waterfall a bit further up the hill according to a local historian there.

So i know they have a heavy presence in the Gargunnock area and prior to that I believe William's son, also called Robert, ran Hillhead Farm.

I'll let you know if I find anything over the weekend but hadn't tried graveyards and headstones before.   :D

Thanks Kenny for your help in the homeland. I am a descendant of the Dogs of Menteith in the Old Kilmadock Graveyard with my burials at http://www.doig.net/Kilmadock_Kirkyard.html. There is a link at the top for about 25,000 names in Kilmadock, Kincardine, and Port of Menteith parishes.

For those who were looking for the ancestors of Mary Stewart who married William Downie I have them at http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=doigk&id=I39434. Any additions or corrections welcome.

Kenny, what is your ancestry into the Kilmadock area? Thanks.

Thanks you very much for your reply, Kenny... absolutely excellent.  And Ken Doig.... thank you so much for the entry regarding Mary Stewart!  Superb!  Has cracked that particular roadblock for me!

Now... their daughter Mary Downie married an Alexander Stewart who was descended from the Stewarts of Edinample (and a line of the Stewarts of Atholl.. i think... some fancy dan line anyway) in Balquhidder....so all roads leads to Balquhidder byt the looks of things!

All help much appreciated!  ;D
