Tracey Family - South Dublin
« on: Sunday 19 April 09 19:09 BST (UK) »
Hi!
I have been trying to trace my family tree back but have run out of leads! I hope someone can help?
My family is from Barnacullia/Ballyedmonduff [between Sandyford & Stepaside] and I can find lots of references to Traceys in the Irish 1910 census however, I can only get back as far as my Great, Great Grandfather and then the info stops.
His name was Edward [or possibly Edwardus] Tracey. He married Margaret [or possibly Margarita] Rogers at Kilternan Church Of Ireland Church [Protestant] about 1852. They then went to live in Ballyedmonduff [near Stepaside].
I'm sorry but I am new to all this so I have probably overlooked something obvious :)
If anyone could help, I would be really happy!!

some south County Dublin Parish records are available on the Irish Family History Foundation website at : www.irish-roots.ie

It might be worth checking to see is Kilternan CofI is one the registers they have

They charge €5 per transcript - you can check basic index details free, once you register

there are a couple of Tracey entries on Griffith Valuation quite close to Kilternan - Ballycorus, Shankill. They are dated 1849.   see :  http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

Hi Shane,
Thanks for this!
Ballycorus/Shankill both sound like good leads. I have discovered that I also have some family buried in Enniskerry so distance wise this is possible.
Also, as protestants, they all seem to be named after english kings so James would definately fit.
I think Rathmichael CofI would be the nearest church to to Ballycorus/Shankill so will see if they have any records.
Thanks again,
Glenn.

I think I know George Tracey he used to be a neighbour of mine, his family were from the Glencullen area.

If you Google George he was involved in motor racing.

Hi Glenn,

As far as I remember his father's name was George as well, he owned a Texaco garage in Cabinteely which has now been developed as an apartment complex.

Hi

Have you obtained a copy of the marriage certificate from the Irish GRO yet? That will show the names & occupations of both the bride & grooms fathers

If you go onto the Family Search Record Search Pilot site you will find the Irish GRO BMD Indexes at...................

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

and by inputting the the required details you should find that there is only one index reference that matches both the brides entry and the grooms entry.

Good luck.

Hi Hugo,
I have been looking at this site [it's very good] and gathering info.
Not yet got copies of the actual records. I am gonna try to do that this weekend.
Thanks for your help.
Glenn.
