Found it!

marriage  1920 Sept Quarter Tynemouth 10b 713
James WILLIAMSON   to May  DEWHURST

death  March Qu 1922  Tynemouth    10b   389
May WILLIAMSON aged 24

Mandy, I think you'll need to get a few certificates to back all this up.  If you order them from the local register office where the event took place, they should be able to confirm known details to make sure it's the correct cert before you part with your money

Just ask if you don't know how to go about ordering certificates

Kind regards
Barbara  :)

Where on earth were they hiding when I looked then? I searched those years, that spelling of Dewhurst ( and others) and absolutely nothing! Well done Barbara - did you have to trawl through original images or did they suddenly decide to make an appearance on FreeBMD?

Hi Jen,

I thought the same  ;D ;D story of my life, a perpetual granny hunt!!

No secret, but they're not on freebmd, 1920 is only about 46% transcribed on there, they're in the full GRO index - not many years to search as James only born 1899, and Rose born 1920   :)

Hi Mandy, please come back and post all the certificate details when you have them, hope they're the right ones, and then we can hopefully help you get further back

Kind regards
Barbara  :)

That's all I meant, Mandy, the details were needed to help find her father in the 1901 census as she would have been born c1903

However, there are a few John Smiths in 1901, as you can imagine, and he may not even have been married by then, so I think you're going to need her birth certificate to find her mother's name, unless you can find the family in the 1911 census.  I can't see a birth for a Jennie, so maybe she was registered as Jane.  You'd need to check each possible birth registration for her father's name, which you should be able to do at the local register office, as long as you intend to buy the cert..
