However, there are a few John Smiths in 1901, as you can imagine, and he may not even have been married by then, so I think you're going to need her birth certificate to find her mother's name, unless you can find the family in the 1911 census. I can't see a birth for a Jennie, so maybe she was registered as Jane. You'd need to check each possible birth registration for her father's name, which you should be able to do at the local register office, as long as you intend to buy the cert..
