Ok - how about starting at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and the death of Arthur Jabez Shields.  Newsagent and Tobacconist married to Jane Hutchison Thomson.  Died 17 July 1958 at the Victoria Infirmary Glasgow. Usual address 98 Ormonde Avenue Muirend.  Advised by his son Kenneth A Shields.
Marriage: Hillhead Glasgow 1924 Arthur    SHIELDS   Jane Hutchieson THOMSON      HILLHEAD
Death:1987 Jane Hutchieson SHIELDS

Unfortunately Kenneth A Shield died in 2000 but you should be able to order up a copy of the death registration and that should show the name and address of the person advising the death.

and now Mary Jane Lucas

Died 1952 Mary Jane SHIELDS    62

married to Harold Holmes Sheppard Newsagent 30 October usual address 1 Orchard Lane Giffnock father is listed as a Stationer advised by son Fred G Sheppard 225 Fenwick Road Giffnock (Which is now the address of an Accountant and Italian Restaurant)

Thanks.....Great Lead

Not sure but might be the same Peter as above....Then maybe not

Mr. Peter Shields

Married

Ms. Catherine McKeown

on  Married: 23 Dec 1923 in Holytown(Glasgow maybe?)

That should make Peter Shields around 35 years old....Looks like he was born 1888 +/- 1yr

Thanks Again

Hi I am researching my family crest. I come from the shields in Renfrewshire Scotland. John Shields born in 1805. Any chance you have come accross anything in that area? Thank you in advance Justin Shields

I was doing some research when I cam across this information re Peter Shields and Kathleen McKeown, married in Holytown 23 Dec 1923. Peter was born 1895 +/- 1 year. He appears on the 1901 census aged 6 living with his family at Carlisle Road, Chapelhall. I hope this is helpful.

My name is Karen Shields Betancourt. My grandfather was Alexandee Blackie Shields and grandmother Catherine Deary Shields. My father was Arthur John and his sisters were Mary, Margaret and Catherine. All are deceased except Arthur's wife, Catherine. Arthur had four children , Stephen, Arthur, Catherine and my self. We all still reside in Florida. My grandfather lived in Coral Gables , Florida until is death with his wife, daughter Mary and her husband . Please feel free to contact me through this site and then we could exchange email addresses!

Hi Jason,

Awesome read on Winnie Glanston! My mom (karenbeta) told me she found this. This is so helpful as I only really have a lot of my father's line since my maternal grandfather passed when I was in middle school. I have been reading all your posts and have learned a lot. Have you found much info on the line post 1910?

Have you found much info on the line post 1910?

All I have on your Alexander is a few addresses in Rochester NY up to 1928.. If I had to guess he left for Florida in 1928 or 29.. Maybe due to the Great Depression and no work..

I seem to think I read he came to the US from Scotland and then went back again and returned with his brother to Rochester in 1910.. I want to think he was in PA in 1909 and maybe with his future wife.. not sure..

But I'm not so sure.. because when I went to search this again years ago I couldn't find what I thought I previously seen on the ellis island website..

I also may have read prior to him living full time in Rochester in the 1920's he had some connection in Pennsylvania where he may have lived a few years.. This could be what I confused with the ellis island piece..

After awhile your brain goes to mush after researching and reading all this.. lol

None of this was possible without the help from the others here on rootschat
