Clonmel census lookup -PLEASE!!
« on: Saturday 18 April 09 12:12 BST (UK) »
I have recently obtained a record of the marriage between my G Great grandparents Ellen Morrissey & James Power and I thought that I was quids in because I learned that Ellen's father was called Thomas and his occupation was servant. So I searched the on line family history foundation and found several Ellen's with fathers called Thomas. According to the IGI she was born c 1850 and I have found two Ellen's 1849 & 1858 (none stating occupation). The Ellen born 1849 has a mother called Catherine Doheny and the Ellen born 1858 has a mother called Ellen McGrath. I would really appreciate and be eternally grateful to anyone who can help me solve this dilemma

not sure which census you are looking for but the oldest surviving Irish  returns are for 1901 and 1911...

These are available in the National Library (Dublin) on Microfilm. They are also starting to digitize these and place online (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/), starting with the 1911 details, 4 counties have been done so far.

p.s. assume the placename is Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.

Thank you for that and I had of course meant Clonmel. I have since solved the problem and it is Ellen Morrissey 1849. A  note on the record reading 'copy given to mrs Power in 1913) confirmed it was her - how lucky was that.

However, I would still appreciate any information or interests in the following names:

James Power (c1850) father called Edmund occupation carpenter
Daniel Ryan married to Margaret Maloney
Thomas Morrisey married to Catherine Doheny
